RCC Multi-day Supported Tour on Oregon Coast NEW!

September 14 - 20, 2008

Celebrate the end of summer and gain memories to hold you through the grey days of winter

School is back in session and the crowds have thinned!  Come with us to Oregon!  Climb the Coast Range, feel the wind at your back while you head south along the coast.  Feel the sand between your toes and explore little traveled roads east and west.

What to Expect:
This is a club tour; and intended for the experienced cyclist who is comfortable with multiple day riding.  RCC will provide basic support and motel accommodations for a small group of riders.  Expect challenging days of 60 - 90 miles, some with substantial elevation gain.  RCC will provide a sag vehicle to carry your luggage, lunch, snacks and water.

Saturday, September 13
We meet the first night in Forest Grove at the Best Western University Inn and get to know each other over dinner.

Sunday, September 14 Day 1 68 miles, approximately 4500’ elevation
Today begins on back roads, heading west and up over the coast range, joining the scenic 3 Capes route in Tillamook.  We continue down the coast and spend our first night looking out on the beach in Netarts

Monday, September 15 Day 2  72 miles, 4500’elevation gain
Monday continues along the 3 Capes route, passing through Pacific City and continues along the coast, often on scenic back roads and travels through Lincoln City and Depoe Bay ending in Newport.

Tuesday September 16 Day 3 53 miles, 1900’ elevation gain
Continue following the coast highway.  Be sure to stop frequently to enjoy the incredible scenery as you pass through Waldport and Yachats.  You will find the highway traffic light on your way to Florence where you will spend your rest day.

Wednesday, September 17 – Rest Day
The day is your own.  Florence is home to the Oregon Dunes.  Shop, rent an ATV, join a dune buggy tour, walk on the beach or in the dunes, perhaps a picnic at Cleowax Lake in Honeyman Park.

Thursday September 18  95 miles, approximately 4000’ elevation gain
Today we leave the sound of surf and look for new scenery as we head east along little traveled Hwy 36.  It is our longest day passing through the villages of Swiss Home and Low Pass as we head towards the outskirts of Corvallis, our stop for the evening.

Friday September 19  66 miles, 2900’ elevation gain
Today follows flat and rolling back roads, many familiar to Oregon Randonneurs as we make our way toward McMinneville in the heart of Oregon wine country.  Overnight at the historic Oregon Hotel.

Saturday September 20  30 miles, 1000’ elevation gain
Today is short arriving back in Forest Grove early enough for a leisurely drive back home.

$600/person tour cost pays for seven nights in a motel (based on double occupancy), the rental of the sag wagon, lunch, snacks, and breakfasts during the tour.  Dinners are on your own.
